A “horse whisperer” is a very special trainer who communicates with horses. A “dog whisperer” is a person who understands and interprets canine communication. An “animal whisperer” talks to animals in their own language.
So what is a “Word Whisperer”?
A person who communicates and interprets with words.
Because April is National Poetry Month, I’m holding a special poetry contest – and one winner will receive a personally signed, paperback copy of the Love Notes Anthology.
There are 3 ways to compete for the opportunity to win: ![]()
1) Choose a photograph (your choice) and write a poem to communicate and interpret it in your own words.
2) Choose any instrumental piece of music and write a poem to communicate and interpret in your own words.
3) Choose any event in your life that was meaningful for you, and write a poem to communicate and interpret it in your own words.
The contest is open from Monday, April 16th to Friday April 20th.
Please post your entries in the comment section of this post. If you are using a photograph, please email me a jpg at cvigna555@mail.com (you won’t be able to include it in your post); if you are using music, let us know what piece you are interpreting. Selena Howard — a wonderful poet and someone who can judge objectively — has graciously consented to assist in choosing the winning poem. The winner will be posted on Saturday, April 21st.
Good luck, and happy writing! ~ Julie

Thank you Marc – does this mean you’re going to enter as well?
cool idea – hoping to make time to participate …
Wonderful, I hope to see an entry from you – and if you have one that applies to any of the prompts and is fairly recent, you can use it.
Sounds intriguing, Julie! Am so glad Lena will be up to co-judging!! My best to both of you–God bless your week!!
Sis Caddo, I’m hoping you will enter this too – as long as the work is fairly recent and uses any of the prompts, you can use it.
“Essence of Love”
Water
Falling
On water—
Droplet by drop
Rain turns
The color of the pool—
It is the same water.
And so, for me—
Whether I flew to you
Or kept the rein
Taut on my heart.
Miles of travel
To paradise betrayal
And yet—
Today is as before
That yesterday—
Will be still, tomorrow.
The color of rain
In droplet by drop—
The essence of love
Unquenchable.

Hi Julie, what a great idea so thought I would enter poem written in an Etheree form – consists of 10 lines of 1-10 syllabels. Dedicated to my mum, a wonderful woman…photo emailed to you
Mum
Your life
Has surpassed
Moments of youth
To become graceful
Mellow, wistful yet full
A vibrant ray of sunshine
Illuminates from within you
Unaware, we draw strength from the light
Which propels us forth to seek our own way

Hi Julie,
Here is my entry (I hope this is correct):
Hand in Hand
Strength lies in you and me
just as the power
of the shimmering sea
and as our vows read
through thick and thin
no matter the struggles
we’re bound to win
You fuel my heart
with each breath you exhale
With the goodness you bring
only “forever” will prevail
We work as a pair
of gloves that fit perfectly
Our song will play on
A romantic melody

Thoughts
O, what thoughts bring me grief,
Grief that grazes fields of mind,
And colors my face as a faded leaf,
And to ground I yield my pride
To wither among naked flowers
Keeping worries where they remain
I possess not the light nor buds powers
And dark blooms, flooding the brain
Where fears boast a great health.
And thou art me and who else
Might be the soul’s humble wealth,
To heal myself, ancient friend of bless,
So hold me thou for while in mine heart,
That those enemies in me eternally part.
Man’s silence
My ears caught sight of thy fading scent
While my eyes tasted thy glamorous grips
That mingled with sighs on my lustrous lips
Thus my heart lulled my senses peculiar skill
Only thee, my soul, welcomed with sweetly will
And love took my thoughts where it shan’t faint
Where man’s silence troubled not by fate or hate
Or pain, or oceans of a single sincere thought
Blaming eyes for a word kept unwrought
Though plangent passions echoes never relent
To faithful love bait of impunible taste
And mind urges incentive cry of the soul’s repent
While paths of hearts are charged with suspect
See, what makes man’s pleasures conceal
In silence of mines of words, not to be told
Brooding on sage noble untrodden zeal
Only to vex chained bosom with heavy load.
Hark, silence dances unrealized, flowing free
Loitering untarnished in ecstasy buds unseen
Parrying scud of piquant words, not thee
To conquer audacious emotions between
Lusty wickedness and tenderness of a saint.
Juliecath, here is a short poem about something meaningful that happened to me:
Shoved and bruised, twisted and cracked
breathing enough in one moment to last a week
she flashed on the directionless mind of the one who attacked
and squirted and screeched out north, east, left, right all in a tweak.
Thus, he drove her car o’er taken round road block and ramp
and down and around and tilting and squealing she matched the craze
of wrong turn taken to get to safe jumping out place so very much all damp
with misty hand pointing from above down to one weak part of knifing blaze.
So did hand from above show the chopping point and blade fell down
and mist blew away as she dove out of car and into post holding light of town.
JulieCath, this is written about the carjacking/hostage taking episode in which I sustained some serious injuries some years ago. You have probably seen me refer to this before. A post back in November of 2011 on my blog titled “Injured Old Woman with Angry Dog” obliquely refers to some of the many miracles of healing and gaining new skills from this episode.
Ocean Breeze
Ocean breeze;
Sand sifting between my toes.
The waves crashing in front of me
Happiness washes through me
And contentment fills me.
For you are beside me,
And I can’t imagine experiencing more joy than this.
Later, I submit myself to you.
I want to experience everything with you.
I want to show you that you have all of me
Even though I can’t always express it.
We fall asleep, grudgingly.
We don’t want to miss even one hour
Of the rare time we have together.
We both know we’ve been given a gift
The next day, we have to part-
It feels as if I’m being ripped in two.
But, the memories sustain me
And make me hopeful for more days
Just as beautiful.
Dear Julie, what a wonderful contest. I will give it a try. I love all the other entries!
Ciao, Francina xxx
