What the Reformed Grinch Might Have Said About Valentines Day

What the Reformed Grinch Might Have Said
About Valentines Day
grinch

They did it without fanfare, or buckets of roses
Without diamond watches and rings on their noses
They did it without Hallmark, Godiva or Ecards
Whobaubles, Love-Credit, i-Whatsis or Wineses
Why, they even did it with no money at all!
And the Grinch sat and he thought
And he thought and he thought
Until finally he realized what the Whos already knew
And his tiny Grinch heart, why it grew and it grew
It grew just as big as the smile he now wore
Just maybe, he thought (though his thinker was sore)
Perhaps Valentines Day means a little bit more!
It’s not the commercials, the money or cards
Or champagne or flowers or chocolates by yards
Though all those are nice, the Grinch thought, to be true
Valentines Day is simply about loving YOU!
So whether you’re a couple, a group or just single
It’s a day for your heart to get out there and mingle
Show kindness and joy, let your heart be ungloved
Tell yourself and your friends how much you’re all LOVED!

    1. Awww, thank you so much, Tameri! I credit the inspiration for this to my little brother, the holiday Grinch, who posted on his FaceBook wall … “Happy Hallmark Day!” LOL! (Even though I kind of agree with him, I’m still a hopeless romantic!) So glad I made your heart smile today! Happy Valentines Day my friend! ~ Love and hugs, Julie xox

    1. LOL, Susan! I would never, but love the compliment, thank you! Today has been a much better day as far as exhaustion and pain levels go, and I was able to read at open mic tonight – I’m just taking things a day at a time. So yes, it was a good day, thank you. I hope yours was wonderful, too! :) xox

    1. Hi Phil, and thanks so much for stopping by to read and comment; so happy and grateful to you for following as well. Poor Grinch, he probably doesn’t even know which side is up anymore, lol! :)

    1. LOL, Christy, the Grinch might not be happy with me for ruining his reputation! Hope you are keeping well; I’m in the midst of IndieReCon writers’ conference right now, but will be back online and visiting more next week! Love and hugs, girlfriend. xoxox

  1. Hi Julie–I’m wondering if you’re aware that your email address is being used to send what must be spam to some people? I received one today–no subject, but I recognized your name so I opened it. All that’s there is a link–with some hesitation I opened it, thinking maybe you had something new going on–but it seems to be maybe a “fake” blog of advertising for “fat burning” something or other. Anyhow, I thought you might like to know–and from here on, I won’t open ones that don’t have a Subject. Hope you are well–sending up prayers for you, and love–sis Caddo

    1. Oh good grief! I got one of those the other day supposedly from my own sister and the same thing happened to me … I’m so sorry, apparently we’ve been hacked or something. I would never just send a link without a personal note, and always put something in the subject line. I do apologize Sis, and will scan my computer right now for any unwanted ‘junk’. Thanks so much for letting me know, and sending you love and prayers also.

I’m having a little better February than January, which I spent most of almost bedridden. I’m doing a 3-day IndieReCon online writers’ conference; and while it’s really interesting, I find I get exhausted very easily. But as always, I’m hanging in there! Thank you again – and again, I’m so sorry you got spammed …. xoxox

      1. Julie, rest and get well. I’ve had a poor December and January, but have been feeling better the last couple of days. I hope you get your strength back soon. I hate feeling ill all the time, so I don’t want those whose work I admire to struggle.

        1. Oh Thomas, I hate feeling like this all the time too, so I understand. My spine has been misbehaving dreadfully the past few months and I’m having to take a lot of pain medication, but I don’t like it. I’m sorry you are struggling as well, and yours is a very difficult road; much more than mine. Always keeping you and Ethel in my thoughts, heart and prayers, and sending positive healing energies your way every day.

I think I’m a bit behind again with your dragon story, so tomorrow I will come by to visit; I absolutely love your epic! :)

      2. No problem at all–from past emailing, I knew you always used the subject line, but I was afraid NOT to open it, in case you were having a life-crisis. So, now we know. I’m praying you’ll feel noticeably improved in spring, Julie–you’re amazing, to tackle the conference!! God bless you–love, sis Caddo

  2. I’m lucky. Hubbs treats me like it’s Vanentines day everyday. We don’t really celebrate. The kids give me cards they make at school. Well, he did give me chocolate and flowers, but I would have been fine with a hug and an “I love you” I’m just not needy in a gift-giving way.

    1. Aww, thank you, Thomas; just a silly little Valentines ditty with hats off to Dr. Seuss, but it was fun! Have you seen my new collection of poems I’m working on this year? They are under the tab at the top: Poems: WIP :)
